What are Ministries? Why do they exist? How can I be involved?
Ministries are thought of as a formation of one's community. They are a proclamation of the Word of God, and a service to His people. They exist so we Baptist Christians can become closer to God. The last quoted Dominican theologian, Dr. Thomas F. O’Meara, offers this definition in his book Theology of Ministry: Christian Ministry "is the public activity of a baptized follower of Jesus Christ flowing from the Spirit’s Charism and an individual personality on behalf of a community to witness to, serve and realize the kingdom of God."
The Great Commission IS God's call to all believers to go forth into the community, to plant the seed (God's word) so that others might have the opportunity to accept the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, thus drawing believers closer to God.
